All Stars Project, Inc., National Headquarters, New York City

For 16 years the All Stars Project (ASP) produced its youth programs in high school gyms in New York City’s poverty-stricken neighborhoods. In 1997, All Stars began a building search and capital campaign to create a new headquarters in the heart of New York City’s theater district. ASP had created an activity-centered methodology for youth and adult development that was performance-based.

The relocation to West 42nd Street was part of a plan to project, at a national level, the All Stars’ breakthrough performance-based developmental learning model and its leadership in the afterschool development space. One challenge of the project was to maintain the integrity of ASP community-based programs while at the same time becoming part of the New York City cultural and theater scene.
